From the US? Check out these costumes
1. "Frankie Says Relax" T-shirt. It seems that even in 2014 Frankie are still topping the charts! Back in 1984, the T-shirt was as popular as the Frankie Goes To Hollywood's music, and these two classic black and white designs are the most popular, but there are dozens to chose from in a wide variety of colours. 80s Rock Hero Costume |
It would appear that us 40 somethings are are still dreaming of being an 80s rock star, but in particular Slash from Guns 'N' Roses. That's a great-looking outfit, and you may also want to add an inflatable rock guitar, which is available for around £2 including delivery!
Mullet/Jason Donovan Wig |
Okay, this isn't actually a costume, but it is the third most popular item and I can imagine this one being worn by groups of guys at a stag do or on a wild night out - wear it with an 80s T-shirt and you have an almost complete 80s costume, or wear with the shell suit further down this page for a fun look.

Budget Beetlejuice Costume |
The budget Beetlejuice costume is fourth, and despite being less than £15, it's highly rated by customers and also a best-seller - proving that many people are still on tight budgets. In fact, budget-priced items have been best-sellers on my 80s website (simplyeighties.com) since the recession struck a few years ago, and despite being told that the economy is recovering, there is still no sign of this trend ending. The Beetlejuice outfit is, of course, also ideal for Halloween.
5. Punk Rocker Shirt
I guess this shirt and wig are often being bought together, and this is a simple, relatively low-cost fancy dress idea. You can add as many or as few accessories as you wish, such as a spike choker, studded gloves, spiked bracelet, mohawk wig and faux leather jacket.
I would like to mention that Punk and rock wigs are always popular, and can be worn with quite a number of costumes or simply with a T-shirt. A mohican wig came up as the fifth most popular item, and for a great 70s look you could wear the wig with a Sex Pistols T-shirt.

Scarface Costume |
It's not cheap at around £32, but this officially licensed white suit costume (which includes a burgundy shirt) is, however, highly-rated by customers and would look great at an 80s-themed event. Of course, it was Al Pacino who played the lead character, Tony Montana, in the 1983 movie. Add an inflatable machine gun (available for under £4) to enhance your gangster look.
7. Choose Life T-Shirt
The black Wham Choose Life T-shirt remains a popular choice, and this was designed by Katherine Hamnett who became well-known for her slogan T-shirts in the 80s. Indeed, the "Frankie Says" T-shirt which was designed by Paul Morley borrowed very heavily from the design - okay, let's face it, he just nicked the idea! As a suggestion why not add a George Michael wig?

Scouser Shell Suit Costume |
Calm down, calm down! Yes, the good old shell suit is in eighth place and is probably the reason that the mullet wig is also a best-seller as the two match-up perfectly. Actually, the scouser characters that featured on the Harry Enfield Television Programme didn't appear until the early 90's, but the shell suit is more associated with the late 1980s. Paired with a mullet wig or scouser perm wig you have a very 80s look.
There are quite a number of suppliers selling a range of colours and styles, and these will appear underneath the main costume when you visit the link underneath the photo (left).
9. Michael Jackson Thriller Costume
Thriller became the best-selling album of all-time, and the zombie video for the single also features one of the most iconic dance routines of all-time. This MJ costume is very popular and priced at under £15 with free delivery it's not hard to see why. A Michael Jackson wig is available for £4.95 and you may also want to add a sequined style glove and hat for a truly authentic look.
