Stunning Zebra Print Wall Clocks

CafePress Zebra Print and Hot Pink Wall Clock

Clocks aren't often mentioned in 80s fashion articles are they? After discovering some gorgeously stylish zebra print wall clocks at Amazon.com and also the UK store, I just had to write a post about them as they're ideal for giving a room a touch of retro 80s style.

Pink and black zebra stripes wall clock

This alternative design is also available on the Cafepress store at Amazon. Although I prefer the design, I would struggle slightly to see the actual time on this one. It still looks funky, though!

If you find pink all a bit too much, then you'll be pleased to discover that the clock above is also available in classic black and white.

Black and White Zebra Print Wall Clock

This clock is well-suited to a black and white themed room which appear to be very fashionable at the moment. I recently gave my bathroom a black and white makeover, although I've never really put a clock in their before - there's a first time for everything! By the way, the U.S. version of the clock has a more vertical pattern with no numerals - just don't ask me why!

Lime Green Animal Print Wall Clock
Combining leopard and zebra print, this stunning lime green clock by Janna Salak Designs is really eye-catching and is hand-crafted with a high gloss finish. Sadly, it isn't available in the UK.

If pink's your thing then Janna Salak also produce this similar design which has the addition of a love heart.

Here are some more designs at Amazon.com that really caught my attention...

Well, I have reached the end of my post - time flies when you're having fun! Sara.

80s Blues Brothers Fancy Dress Kit

Blues Brothers Fancy Dress Kit
Blues Brothers Dress-Up Kit

I have fond memories of watching John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as Jake and Elwood Blues, and the most popular costume item for men bought through my website (SimplyEighties.com) is, by far, the Blues Brothers Fancy Dress Kit. I don't know the exact reason for this, but I would imagine that the low cost, easy-to-wear and fun nature of the item has a lot to do with it, The low price makes the kit ideal for groups and stag dos, and just about everyone who lived through the 80s will, of course, remember The Blues Brothers movie.

The kit originally comprised of the Fedora hat, black tie and Wayfarer style shades, but now also includes stick-on sideburns making it more complete and even better value for money. The lowest-priced supplier is I Love Fancy Dress through their store front at Amazon UK. There are several other kits available, including one by Smiffys which includes a harmonica, but it costs over double the price of the set featured above.

You can, of course, but any of the items in the kit separately.

There are quite a number of suppliers selling Fedora hats, but if you want them for fancy dress purposes then your best option is to search the Toys and Games section at Amazon, rather than the clothes section. Try the following search;

Blues Brother Hat

Blues Brothers Fedora Hat (Pack of 2) £2.79
The cheapest option was this pack of 2 Fedoras by Partyrama.

Total Blues Brothers Hat and Sunglasses
Total Blues Hat and Sunglasses £5.93
This Total Blues hat and glasses kit by Henbrandt is also great value and has been receiving high ratings by customers.

Blondie - Debbie Harry Fashion - Clothing

Debbie Harry's Schoolgirl Look
Debbie Harry Fridge Magnet
Back in my school days (yes, it was a long, long time ago!) many kids associated Blondie purely with lead singer Debbie Harry, although Blondie was actually a band, and a damn fine one, too. It's not hard to see why. After all, she oozed sex appeal and became a style icon, and many of her looks can still be seen on the high street today.

Harry's designer friend Stephen Sprouse can claim responsibility for many of those looks. He created every style you can imagine using denim, black leather biker jackets, camoflauge, wayfarer and aviator shades, pink and girly styles, nautical stripes, animal print catsuits - the list goes on!

I find it amusing that in 1998 Britney Spears caused controversy by wearing a school uniform for her video "Hit Me Baby One More Time". How quickly we forget that Debbie Harry had done this two decades earlier!

After forming in 1974, Blondie became pioneers of the punk and new wave scene. However, it wasn't until 1978 when they acheived mainstream success with their Plastic Letters and Parallel Lines albums. It was the band's gender-swapping cover of the song "Denise" by Randy & The Rainbows (which became "Denis") that gave the band their first taste of success, which peaked at #2 here in the UK.

Cartoon characters frequently appear in fashion trends, and one of Debbie Harry's most memorable looks was from 1978 when she wore a sailor hat with a Popeye T-shirt. This T-shirt for men is available at Amazon.com, although it's not available in the UK, sadly. However, there are usually several being sold on eBay.

Andy Warhol's Bad was a comedy film produced by the legendary pop artist himself. Debbie Harry wore the T-shirt on stage (with vertical striped leggings) in 1979 and it also features on the front cover of the European edition of Blondie's Atomic single.

Blondie T-shirts are still as popular as ever and are regularly being bought from our 80s website (via links to Amazon). Women are the biggest buyers, and during the pop and rock festival season the sales will, no doubt, explode. If you're off to a 70s or 80s party/festival or retro music event then a Blondie tee is a fine choice.
